Vaquita survey underway

The 2024 Vaquita Survey will examine the endemic species that exists only in a small region of Mexico’s Upper Gulf of California.

Over the past decade the El Paso Zoo and Botanical Gardens has supported efforts to save the Vaquita. The Vaquita is the rarest marine mammal in the world and could go extinct at any moment. The goal of our Zoo in collaboration with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums is to work with and for the people of the Upper Gulf of California to create sustainable fisheries and communities in support of thriving marine life populations.
