Save the date: Bug Fest at the Zoo May 21-22

Vinegaroon

Do you know any children who like bugs? The El Paso Zoo does and for many years we have hosted “bug fest” events.   Young bug lovers in El Paso are very passionate about discovering the bugs of our desert including insects, spiders and scorpions.

Our next Bug Fest will be held in the Zoo’s new Event Pavilion adjacent to the African Lion Exhibit on May 21-22.   From 10am-4pm each day Zoo guests will be able see all kinds of bugs up close and learn about their fascinating life histories and why they are important to the environment.

The El Paso Zoo’s mission is to celebrate the value of animals and natural resources and create opportunities for people to rediscover their connection to nature.  Bugs are part of that connection and one of the best ways you can get involved is to plant a pollinator garden.  Even if all you are able to do is plant a small garden in a planter, you can make a difference by planting flowers that attract butterflies, bees, hummingbirds and other animals that pollinate plants.  Largely due to habitat loss, pesticide poisoning, disease, and introduced species, pollinators need our help and many are in decline worldwide. Pollinators support us by pollinating plants that we depend on for food, but their future is uncertain.
