Online ZAPs: How does this work?

Who can sign up for an Online Zoo Adventure Program (ZAP)?

Currently, we are accepting requests from groups of any kind. This includes, but is not limited to, school groups, scouts, youth groups, daycare groups, birthday parties, work groups/office meetings, etc. Because we are not pre-scheduling programs, we are not accepting individual registrations at this time.

What programs does the Zoo offer?

We have five TEKS-aligned and STEAM-focused programs that teach about different topics related to wildlife and wild places: Animal Wrappers, Our World Our Friend, Animals of the Chihuahuan Desert, Venomous Animals, and Biomes of the World. If these programs are not quite what you are looking for, we are also offering custom programs.

What kind of custom programs can I request?

The El Paso Zoo Education Team is excited to work with you on creating the perfect program for your group. Examples of custom programs can include a story time with special animal ambassador visitors, learning about a specific type of animal or habitat, an animal encounter, connecting art and wildlife, or even just having an animal present during your group’s meeting. There are endless possibilities when it comes to creating a custom program for your group!

While we will do our best to accommodate your request, please keep in mind that some things may not be possible. If your exact request is not possible, we will help to come up with other options for you.

When can I have my program and how long do they last?

Programs are available Monday through Friday with start times between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. Programs will typically last between 30-60 minutes, depending on the topic and content. We ask that you register at least five business days in advance. Requests received within five business days of your preferred program date may not be possible.

How do I sign up?

Simply submit the online request form found on our Online Zoo Adventure Programs page here.

I submitted my request, now what?

Once you have submitted your request, our education team will begin to coordinate your program. If everything looks good from your request (your preferred or alternate date and time is available, you selected one of the five curriculum programs, etc.), we will send you a confirmation via email with your meeting/program invite.

If we have any questions about your request, we will email you to clarify any details. This may happen if your preferred date or time is not available, if you requested a custom program, etc. Once details are clarified, we will send you an email confirmation.

Your program is confirmed, time to get ready for your Zoo Adventure!

Make sure, as the group leader, to send the meeting invite/link to all of your group members. You will also need to send a list of all participant names to ZooEducation@elpasotexas.gov so that your Zoo educator will know who to grant access to for your program. During your program, participants may be muted at certain times to allow for instruction, but there will be plenty of time for questions and answers. Participants can also take advantage of the “Chat” feature to ask questions.

Do you have more questions? Email us at ZooEducation@elpasotexas.gov and we will be happy to assist you!
